West St. becomes Cloverdale Blvd. Effective January 1, the main road through town, originally named West St., was renamed Cloverdale Blvd.  This was done in anticipation of the freeway bypass and off ramps to come.  It was felt "Cloverdale Blvd." presented a better image for Cloverdale than West St.

The Cloverdale Airport is dedicated on Oct. 7, 1962.  The airport project was spearheaded and overseen by the Chamber of Commerce.  The land was purchased by the County of Sonoma with the City taking a lease to oversee operations.  The airport was truly a community effort.  The land was cleared by residents and the airport was privately funded by residents and businesses which donated materials, equipment, fuel, labor, time, and money, worth an estimated $70,000. The Lions Club funded lighting of the airfield.  At the dedication, 620 envelopes were airmailed by the Cloverdale Post Office commemorating the event.  The envelopes were sent to the Chamber by interested people.  A commemorative cachet (sticker) was applied and the envelopes were returned to the senders.

The Cloverdale Historical Society is formed.  A small group of residents dedicated to preserving the history of Cloverdale began holding regular meetings.  Of primary interest was gathering artifacts and historical information. This led to the dream of a museum and fundraising began in earnest. They published a book of Cloverdale history, held flea markets, organized the Olde Time Fiddle Festival which ran for many years, raffled quilts, and published a second book on Cloverdale history.  On September 18, 1982, they opened a museum at a rented house at 111 W. Third Street.  However, they had their eyes on buying the historic Shaw house, and in 1983 that became a reality.  The house required a great deal of work and was opened as a museum in February 1984 while some of the renovation was still in process. Five years later, the Historical Society bought what had been a used car lot next door and restored the lot to a beautiful garden, as it had been when owned by the Isaac Shaw family. The new St. Peter’s Catholic Church is dedicated.  In 1954 the Church acquired five acres of land for a future building site. Various fundraisers were held including an annual barbecued chicken and spaghetti dinner. Construction began on the church, parish house, rectory and parish hall in June 1961.  [Location:  491 S.
