Before the town of Cloverdale existed, for thousands of years this Northern California area was home to native people known as the Pomo. The Pomo are known for their exceptional baskets. Considered by  many to be the most beautiful examples of fine art basket weaving, they are included in public and private collections around the world. The Cloverdale Museum of History (CMOH) has an exhibit of baskets made and donated by Pomo, and information about Pomo history and culture. Today, the Cloverdale Rancheria of Pomo Indians maintains an active presence in Cloverdale.
