The Prescott Mansion, part-time residence of wealthy San Franciscans George and Nellie Prescott, is completed at the north end of Main Street. Mr. Prescott made his money in the Union Iron Works and railroads. They lived in the Palace Hotel in San Francisco and were spending time in Cloverdale as early as 1880. Mr. Prescott served as a director of the Bank of Cloverdale and Mrs. Prescott was a charter member of the Women's Improvement Club and trustee of the library. He died in 1902 and she in 1915.

The mansion was sold in 1919 and again in 1920 to author Ethelwyn Wing of Oakland. It went through a series of owners until it was turned into apartments in the early 1950s. In Oct. 1953, a fire of unknown origin destroyed the upper story. In 1954 the owner decided to demolish the mansion and subdivide the property.

McConathy-Dineen House at is completed. It was built for sisters Emma McConathy and Elizabeth McConathy Dineen in the Dutch Colonial style. The sisters called it "El Contento."
